Day 2 is in the books. Today started with an early morning grabbing breakfast and hitting the road to OBP. The drive from Geneva into France took us approximately 4 hours, plus a stop for lunch in the last town before the observatory. As I have told a few of you, our observatory in France (and the drive in) is one of the prettiest sets of scenery in the network. It turns out driving through the Swiss and French Alps in early spring did not disappoint. Here are some pictures from the drive today :

Drive-by waterfall. Picture doesn’t do it justice.
View from a rest stop.
The river running through the last town before the observatory, the water is so blue!
Our first order of business after arriving at the observatory was resurrecting sensor 1043. Sensor 1043 was the third international sensor in EGTN back in 2014 and the mount (finally) died out roughly a month ago. With this sensor down, we have not had any eyes in France since then. The behavior exhibited by the sensor allowed us to properly triage the problem from home, but needed our hands on the sensor in order to complete the fix. Thankfully the issue we believed it to be was accurate, and we are now collecting from sensor 1043 as I type this! Max did a great job spinning the fix around in short order. We also began setup of all the new computers for both OBP and our next stop at KTO. OS’s are now installed on 4 the new computers and we will be finishing the rest over the next couple of days. Here was our little OS installation station:
As we had initially chalked today up to a full travel day, we are well ahead of the game. Tomorrow we will be focusing on our second sensor here at OBP, focusing on the placement and starting the wiring. Our contact on site is busy tomorrow with other training, so our permanent sensor location will likely not occur until the 19th. We’ll setup on our tripod tomorrow and be streaming from both sensors tomorrow night!
So today I will leave you with the view from the main building here at OBP, definitely a tough place to work from for a few days…
Cheers,
MJ
